Visual-led storytelling

Stories shaped by place, people, and quiet observation

I am Shahrul Hafeez, a self-taught photographer, working towards filmmaking. I write, research, and photograph stories shaped by place, people, and the quiet details often missed in passing.

My professional background spans journalism, corporate communications, research, and training. I have worked as a journalist, collaborated with talents, and now freelance as a writer. That grounding continues to inform how I observe, structure, and tell stories - with clarity, context, and intent.

My focus has gradually shifted towards visual-led storytelling. Through photowalks and short-form essays, I document streets, markets, forgotten corners, and everyday scenes - not as destinations, but as lived spaces. Photography, for me, is less about spectacle and more about noticing: expressions, light, routines, textures, and the small human moments that anchor a place in memory.

Whether writing for publication, building a brand story, or walking a street with a camera in hand, my intention remains the same:

to slow things down, pay attention, and capture the stories therein.
